๐Ÿ”ฅโ„๏ธ Hot & Cold Recovery

Warmth can soothe. Cool water can refresh. Neither has to be extreme โ€” discover what each does, then choose what feels right for you.

Explore one of the four mini-guides:

01 / WARMTH

THE POWER OF HEAT

Comfortable warmth can relax you, ease temporary stiffness and help you unwind. It's often a pleasant way to finish a physically or mentally demanding day.

TRY: THE EVENING RESET
  1. Run a comfortably warm bath or shower โ€” not scalding hot.
  2. Take a few easy minutes to relax your shoulders and jaw.
  3. Step out carefully, drink some water if thirsty, and settle into a restful evening.

Epsom salts? Optional if you enjoy them. The warm bath can be soothing; strong evidence that magnesium from Epsom salts enters the body through skin is lacking.

Avoid very hot water, especially if you feel faint. Don't put heat on a fresh, swollen injury without individual advice.

02 / COOLING

THE POWER OF COLD

Cool water may help you feel more awake and refreshed. Cold can also temporarily numb discomfort, but it's not necessary for everyday recovery.

TRY: A COOL SHOWER FINISH
  1. Enjoy your usual warm shower first.
  2. Turn the temperature down gradually to comfortably cool.
  3. Try 15โ€“30 seconds, breathing normally. Stop if it feels unpleasant or makes you dizzy.

Start with cool, not icy. You don't need a cold plunge to get a refreshing finish.

Avoid sudden intense cold if you have heart, blood-pressure, circulation or sensation problems unless a clinician says it's safe.

03 / COMBINING THEM

WARM โ†’ COOL: THE CONTRAST EXPERIENCE

Some people enjoy alternating temperatures because it feels refreshing. Research hasn't shown that contrast showers are necessary or always improve recovery.

1WARMYour usual comfortable shower.
2COOL15โ€“30 seconds of comfortably cool water.
3DONEDry off, warm up and check how you feel.

You can skip the cool part whenever you want. If you prefer warmth alone, that counts too.

No extreme temperatures or breath-holding. Stop immediately if unwell, short of breath or lightheaded.

04 / CHOOSE WHAT HELPS

RECOVERY AFTER A HARD DAY

How are you feeling right now? Choose a situation for one gentle suggestion.

A LITTLE WARMTH

Try a comfortable warm bath or shower, followed by rest. Choose gentle movement only if it feels good.

This is general wellbeing information, not treatment advice. Heat, cold or supplements are never a requirement for recovery. If you have an injury or health condition, ask a suitable professional before using temperature treatments.

YOUR DAILY BODY CHECK-IN

How has your body been looked after today? Pick the answers closest to how you feel. No perfect score โ€” just one helpful next step.

Have I hydrated enough?
Have I eaten food that nourishes me?
Do I need anything extra?

Electrolytes may be useful after heavy sweating or significant fluid loss. Vitamins/minerals are worth taking only when appropriate to your needs or professional advice โ€” not just to tick a box.

How have I slept or rested?
How is my body feeling?
